See you all at the faculty meeting this afternoon. Sometimes we become numb with the the volume of information coming our way. We have tried to address this through fewer faculty meetings to honor your time. Yet we have found that the number of meetings does nothing to mitigate the volume of information. Please do your part to honor your colleagues and keep our meetings focused with an engaged presence as a member of the Brunson Team.

Dear STEM Education Advocates:

Congress is now considering legislation to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, otherwise know as No Child Left Behind. A bill is expected to move forward in the next two weeks in both the House and Senate education committees. Our Coalition has been meeting with House and Senate members here in Washington over the past several weeks to push for including provisions in this important bill that would establish STEM education as a national priority. We need your help getting this message heard.

We would like to invite you to join in this effort by sending as many emails as possible to your elected representatives in Congress expressing your support for STEM education as a national priority. Did anyone notice the aberration in the MM from yesterday.  I would like to claim that I did that on purpose, but I was just in a hurry.  So, I write tonight to avoid the morning rush

PTA birthday bash today - January and July

We are planning to take about 5 minutes of our staff meeting on Wednesday to share some celebrations around Learning Targets. Here are some possible sentence starters (but don’t feel limited!):

· 01/14/15 becomes an L day

School Bus Driver Appreciate Week is Feb. 9-13 - Feb. 9-13 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Week in North Carolina. Please consider doing something to recognize the important contributions of our school bus drivers in the educational process.  During that week, North Carolina Public Schools also celebrate LOVE THE BUS. While elementary and middle School principals received a separate memo about Love the Bus, all schools should consider incorporating LOVE THE BUS with School Bus Driver Appreciation Week activities. 8.  The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) Nominations Open - The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is the highest recognition that a U.S. math or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching. Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education. Nominations are now open for the 2014-15 award year. To submit a nomination for an exceptional grades 7-12 teacher, please complete the nomination form available on the PAEMST website, and submit the teacher’s name, email address and school contact information. If you know more than one teacher deserving of this award, you may submit multiple nominations. The 2014-15 nomination deadline is April 1, and the application deadline is May 1.Teachers also may apply directly at www.paemst.org.
