Wednesday MM

Good Morning!

Faculty meeting at 3:20 in the media center.  In an earlier meeting with our amazing instructional assistants we asked for the staff cooperation to flex the 7:45-3:45 work hours for these meetings.  So many assistants will stay for the duration of the meeting and will leave Thursday or Friday at 3:30 instead of 3:45.

Kim Morrison and Wayne Foster will be here today at 1pm to talk with our leadership team about Professional Learning opportunities.  This will help drive our next SIT meeting as we set the course for our implementation of STEM and 21st century skills.

Tuesday MM

Good Morning!

I have posted the "2011-12 Brunson Guidance-Media Schedule" on the Board by the sign-in and on the shared folder.  We will run this schedule with the help of Mrs Travis and a yet to be interviewed Counselor until the 3rd of November. 

I have made a mistake in rescheduling our SIT meeting for Thursday as TBE, ESL and 5th grade have previously arranged meetings for that afternoon.  We will coordinate with Kim, our SIT chair, and communicate through the blog of our second SIT meeting date.

Today at 3pm I will be attending a retirement celebration for Toni Bigham at Central Office. Wednesday is her last day with our system and we wish her well in retirement.

Monday MM

Good Morning! 

Gym Duty begins today in the AM.  Please help build this habit so students are supervised.  We are trusted with these kids and it takes all of us to ensure their safety.

On the flipside, we will send a flyer home in the Tuesday Packet about Dismissal procedures.  We need all staff to focus on students during this vital time of the day.  Joel is going to take over at the Crosswalk and we thank Kim for her duty on point for the cars.

Faculty meeting on Wednesday at 3:20  SIT will shift to Thursday afternoon.

Note from Tori Petty (PTA):
I will be putting the new Brunson One/Uno PTA forms in your mailboxes today for distribution in Tuesday packets this week. We have separate English and Spanish versions of the form – please get back to me with how many Spanish versions you need for students in your class. We want our materials to be accessible to parents. I will leave some extra copies on the PTA boxes in the mail room if you need more of one version or the other. Thank you, in advance, for your patience and help with our efforts to reduce paper waste and printing costs this year – we are going to try not to send forms to families who have already completed one or multiple copies to families with more than one Brunson student. Completed forms may be returned to the Brunson One box in the PTA mailboxes. Thanks!

Friday MM

Good Morning!

I must say that our First day was very good!  I Thank you for your efforts to create a PBIS climate here at our school home. 

Let me point out a few areas of concern. 

Dismissal - We have full custody of each and every child until they board a bus or car.  We must pay attention to students and be sure to safely and efficiently usher them into their awaiting car.  Use your voice well and acknowledge all parents as they enter cars or get picked up.  This interaction will pay dividends as we need parental support on many coming issues.  Remember, Safety first, then efficiency.

Lunch - Please focus on teaching the students for the entire 30 minute period.  In order to get where we want, we must  model proper behavior build habits for our kids.  In addition, please PRAISE those who are doing the right thing.  Remember the video, where the leader warmly embraces the first follower and makes the movement public.  We need a public action to inspire that third-fourth-fifth follower to create the tipping point for our cafeteria to become a safe place of joy.

Recess - Free play for kids should be a part of the period, not the entire period.  We should be teaching proper playground habits so that we can set them free later and enjoy talking with our peers.  A good rule of thumb is to be near many more kids than teachers during your outside time.  This allows for distributed supervision and great opportunities to praise those who feel like the lone nut.

Garnett from Tech is here today and will help us with immediate issues.  Se me ASAP if there is a connectivity issue or printer issue and we will start to create a list!

Thursday MM

Good Morning!  Make a great First impression!

We have bus issues.  Anson Street is closed and all three bus stops on Anson will now pick up at the corner of Sunset and Anson until the street re-opens.  this will affect over 100 students. Please work with us as we only received this information this morning.

Be present and visible all day and remember what Andy Shared with PBIS..... Make no Assumptions that ANY student knows what to do.  Teach expectations and pre-correct to form excellent habits in all our children.

Tuesday MM

In the Shared Folder there are many documents including the Schedule for 2011-12.  I am so thankful for the polite inquiries I have received form many of you regarding this important document.  I agonized over the specials and Assistant responsibilities and know that we have the "bones" to create learning opportunities for our students and job satisfaction for our employees.

We will discuss this with staff at 3pm in the media center.  We will also distribute current rolls at that same event.

Work hours today are 11:30-7:30 with our open house doors open at 5:00.

Monday MM 8-22

Here goes the first post on this Staff Blog via Blogspot! 

I was frustrated with the multiple clicks and delays in our local system and have switched to this forum.  It will still be linked from the web page, but as always, it is NOT private.  the world can see our business. Remember that we are an educational institution and we rely on Public funds to do our work.  therefore, transparency is appropriate and I will do my best to keep "sensitive" information out of the blog.  Please help me determine what that is.  I will post daily to sub list and will use first names and last initials to identify staff members.
