Andy and I are working with each of our Certified Teachers to schedule a Summative Evaluation conference before May 18th.  Plan for 45 minutes and we will have a fantastic conversation about learning and teaching.

The first EOG administrator training was yesterday and it went well.  Our next and final opportunity is Thursday at 3:20.

Good Morning!

I hope you all enjoyed a nice weekend and are ready to leverage your investments.  All of us have deposited time effort and energies into the academic and social development of our students.  Here at the end of the year, we need to tap into these accounts and help them access their own inner reserves to perform their best.

No faculty or SIT this week as we continue to focus our Learning Team Meetings on Module 3 and 4 of the CCES.

Monday MM - Day four

Good Morning!

We have 15 days of instruction until we begin the EOG administration on May 14th.  Make these days engaging and full of joy for our learners.

An enjoyable Mix-IT-Up day last Friday! Let these pictures tell the story

An update on the grounds workday from Colleen. We had 59 volunteers and got a lot done. Big trash sweep of grounds, including twin city diner parking lot, and the creek. The big trash find was a stolen purse in the creek!  An elderly woman on 25th street said her purse had been stolen from her house last November. They took the money but not the cards, license, etc. Our PTA will be delivering it to her this week. Lots of raking, replacing pine needles along front of building, weeding gardens and day lily beds, etc. Also got all the sculptures installed. Volunteers signed a banner and tied it up on the bridge near the front doors so all can see it. A great day!!

EOG updates

On Monday I attended training for EOGs. There are a couple of messages I want to get out early .
1. Just like last year, we will be following the local policy for using EOG reading, math and science scores as part of a student's grade in elementary schools. Per the revised AR5123, Promotion and Retention: "Elementary School EOG tests will be used to improve a student's final grade in the fourth quarter for the subject tested, but will not be used to reduce a student's grade." That information will go home with the EOG test date letter.

2. The test dates are May 14-17. There will not be a separate day for background. There is no survey this year, so the background is incorporated into the first day.

3. It is imperative that we start as early in the day as possible. By 8:45, you must be saying, "Today we are taking the NC EOG test of ____." If you are not currently in that mode, start teaching your students now to eat, go to the bathroom and be READY!

4. I'm currently recruiting proctors. A message went home in the Brunson Burner inviting parents to assist. If someone asks you about it, please ask them to e-mail me. Proctors must be 18 years old, not in K-12 education, and not proctoring in their child's class (I prefer another grade level).

5. Fifth grade test administrators: I will offer training for the science test at planning time May 1, 8:30 and 2:00, or after the reading/math training. It will be a short training as the front of the book is the same as rdg/math.

6. All test administrators: reading and math training are April 30 OR May 3 after school. Plan to stay until 4:30.

Thank you for all your work to make testing run as smoothly as possible!
--Kathy

Wednesday MM - Day ONE

Good Morning!

Today we have our SIT meeting @ 3:25 and will do some "data mining" with our 3rd quarter EOQ's.  We will also continue to develop the staff development plan for 2012-2013.

Speaking of professional growth, we need to commit to the NC TWC (teacher working condition's survey.)  To date we have 24 of 47 completed for 51% .  We aim for 80% to gain more confidence in the validity and reliability of the results.  Please take the 30 minutes necessary to complete this vital point of data for our school improvement.

Problem based learning commitments are due to me via e-mail by Monday April 23rd.  The dates are August 6-9.

Deb Fidali and I will attend our magnet school meeting today from 10-12.  Spend some time preparing your teams e-night event so we can have great success Thursday evening!
