Two vital student days to close out the 2nd quarter and our STEM week learning.  If you have any questions regarding your assignment for WSFCS PD on Thursday, PLEASE ask Su and Brandi.  We rely on you to learn and share the direction of the district so we can be fully aligned with our instruction.

School based PD on Friday will require your laptop/Chromebook.  We will circle up at 8:30 sharp in the media center.  We will be providing a mid morning snack for the 10:00 break.  Breakfast and lunch (11:30-1:00) are on your own.

Friday, January 17th

STEM week is building!  It's all adding up.  I am out of cheap and easy puns right now, yet I encourage you to finish strong.  Below is a preview of next week:

Monday is MLK Day of Service
The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 20, 2020, marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. The Corporation for National and Community service has been charged to lead this effort for the last quarter century.
Tuesday and Wednesday we serve our students to end the 2nd quarter.

Thursday is a Reserved for Central Office Professional Development day.  Topics and locations are posted by the sign-n board

Friday is a Reserved for Schools Professional Development Day.  We will meet at 8:30 in the media center and focus on Brunson Crew until 11:30.  At 1:00 we will reconvene and continue our learning targets started on the ERD of December 11th.

  • I can implement practices to create a positive classroom environment and school culture.
    • Support Ladder
    • Recovery
    • Management Strategies

NC Check-Ins continue today with the 2 hour delay schedule
  • 3rd Grade specials in Period ONE
  • 2nd Grade specials @ 2:10
    • 2nd grade to PLT @ 2:15
From Effie Mcmillian - WSFCS Office of Equity

Since November 3, 1983, our country has set aside the third Monday every January to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For many, the famous “I Have a Dream” speech is what is remembered and often discussed without delving into the violent struggles, beatings and arrests that were everyday occurrences in the fight for civil rights. There is more to know and understand about Dr. King than just this speech. Not only was Dr. King a minister, he was a trailblazing civil rights activist that fought against poverty, racism, and war. Education was also something that he cared deeply about.

In fact, Dr. King wrote in his essay, “The Purpose of Education, ”The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.” This statement reaffirms the belief that educators must create environments in which students become critical thinkers, develop empathy and kindness, and develop a desire to serve others for the betterment of society. How does this statement resonate with you, your staff, and how your school impacts all students’ learning and growth? As you reflect with your staff, keep these words from Dr. King in mind: “The time is always right to do what is right.”

As your school prepares to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., please share these resources with your staff that talk about his life and legacy. Encourage your staff to share the information with students in your building.

Tuesday, January 14th

Today and Wednesday we will run the 2-hour delay specials schedule to accommodate the NC Check-Ins.  (with one adjustment today) 3rd Grade will report to specials at 2:10.  3rd grade teachers will be in PLT at 2:15 as the specialists will support dismissal.

We may escape the rain today and provide our students with some time outside.  Be mindful of the new fencing surrounding the "bog."

My thought for today regarding the 5:1 ratio
Consider the student who is tardy to school.  If they have a ledger of interactions, what is the balance of positive to negative upon entering your presence?  I would believe it is skewed to the negative and we must invest in that child to build the positive.

Monday, January 13th

Enjoy this week of STEM & Assessments.

Last week we used the words of Stacey Abrams to utilize our power to listen.  Extend that conversation with your students and be intentional about the nature of your response.

"For every person ______________ to feel in their gut that they were seen and heard and valued. That their stories too carried power and meaning, purpose and grace."

Thanks to Brandi and Su for leading our assessments in January.  Organization and Crew mentality will allow us to maintain balance for students and staff.

Tuesday, January 7th

A parent stopped me as she dropped her daughter in the car rider line on Monday morning to exclaim, "Thank you all so much for creating such a wonderful school!  She couldn't wait to come back after the break."

Your actions are constantly watched by students and teach a lesson more powerful than anything you have ever planned on paper.  Who you are & HOW you are, builds our future.

Keep up the good work and bask in the joy of each day!
