Friday MM - June 10th

Good Morning!

We are proud of our 5th grade students and look forward to honoring their elementary school experience at our celebration.  We begin at 8:45 and will hopefully be finished and ready for Lunch on our regular schedule.  We will make an "all-call" if we need to delay and make adjustments.  Thanks in advance for your flexibility and cooperation.

Take the time to connect and engage with your students.  We want ALL students to head into summer knowing that;
  • We believe in them
  • We love them
  • We are thankful for them
It is a MYTH we learned as children that a if you touch an egg in the nest, the mother bird will not return.  Reality is that birds have an INVESTMENT in their progeny and no human hand will cause the abandonment of that obligation.  Why do we tell this lie?  We know that young hands have limited control and often the handling of the egg causes the damage.  So in an effort to avoid disruption to the avian life cycle, we create a myth.

It makes no difference if you relate to the bird or the human perspective of this story, today we must convey that we are committed to the immense investment we have placed in our students!

Good morning!
We started the year with the words of Dr. Emory;
  • We believe that adult behaviors directly impact student outcomes
In these last two days with our students, I encourage you to demonstrate sagacity!

Tuesday MM - June 7th

Good Morning!

More testing today throughout the building.  Please keep the environment appropriate for our students.

Continue to teach like you hair is on fire.  At  our SIT meeting we all agreed that school is "best" when we maximize the interactions between students and teachers.  Let us utilize these 4 remaining days and connect with all students to forward their development in all three dimensions;
  • Mastery of Knowledge and Skills
  • Character
  • High Quality Student Work
During lunch on Wednesday, have your students bring ALL of their cogs and place them in the giant barrel for a Thursday  afternoon drawing. Prizes will be assorted, but not on display as in the past. The first name drawn gets first choice, second gets second, and so on. We'll clean out 75% of the items from the toys/books/etc collected this year, so there will be LOTS. We will not use these cogs next year, so encourage everyone to participate.

Please assist your class in leaving lunch about 5 minutes early on Wednesday to head outside to enjoy a cool, refreshing Popsicle. This will be our end of the year, whole school cog celebration.

Have a great day~Sarah S. Huddleston

Thursday MM - June 2nd

EOG - MATH !!!!

We had a really good day during our ELA assessment. Thanks for your support of our students and staff.  Today will be better as we have the boost from our relational trust crew session.

Speaking of CREW.  I have the following request from Mark Conrad, Chief Schools Officer for EL Education;
  • We use the term "affiliate year" to represent the first official year of school-wide implementation of EL practices and it applies to start-up schools that are just opening their doors and existing schools that are making the transition to EL. Many schools have planning years or other forms of partnership with EL prior to their affiliate year but the affiliate year marks a key point in our partnership. As you know, we have very specific partnership readiness criteria for our new partnerships and we see something special in you as leaders and in the potential of your schools.
  • The Mentor School Initiative is entering its 6th year and is made up of credentialed EL schools that have demonstrated a readiness and willingness to actively mentor our newest partners.
  • As an affiliate school, we have matched you with an EL Education Mentor School that will provide collaboration, thought-partnership, inspiration and support for the next two years.  I'll be introducing you to your Mentor partner via email early next week.
  • To help prepare for that communication, please send me a paragraph description of your school, your community and any unique aspects of your mission (in addition to becoming an EL Education School). If possible, please send me your paragraph by the end of this week (Friday, June 3). I realize this is a short turnaround so let me know if this won't be possible.
  • I look forward to meeting all of you over the course of your partnership with EL and hope to see many of you at our Leadership Induction Institute this summer in July. Thanks again for your dedication to a strong partnership with EL!

I would like to assign this paragraph to a couple of willing faculty members and post their collaborative writing on the Monday Blog of June 6th.  If you have any "bullet points" about our school please submit them to me before the end of the day Thursday so I can get those to the writing team.
