May 31st

I was thinking, what contributed to my great feeling of success from the ELA EOG?  Was it our culture or our climate?  Below is some information regarding both.
Culture is “a pattern of shared basic assumption that have been invented, discovered or developed by a given group as it learns to cope with its problems of external adaptation and internal integration… that has worked well enough to be considered valid and therefore to be taught to new members as the correct way to perceive, think and feel in relationship to those problems”
In effect, it is the commonly or underlying shared:
  • Beliefs
  • Values
  • Norms of behaviour, thinking and emotional intelligence
  • Routines
  • Traditions
  • Sense-making
  • Perspectives
That pervade or infuse through the organization.
Climate on the other hand is the sense, feeling or atmosphere people get in the organization on either a day-to-day basis or just generally.
You know when you walk into a place and you either think:
  • ‘wow this place has an amazing energy. People are really friendly and it feels positive’,
or
  • ‘wow it feels like something has happened here. I don’t think these people like each other. Feels like everyone is scared. The atmosphere stinks.’
That’s the climate.  Essentially, the climate are the perceptions and attitudes of the people in the culture.
So, what about today, will we create a climate that supports an apex performance from our students?

Advocacy : the act or process of supporting a cause or proposal
“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”
― Elie Wiesel

“It can be difficult to speak truth to power. Circumstances, however, have made doing so increasingly necessary.”
― Aberjhani,

Friday, May 11th

Happy Mother's Day weekend!

We had big talk about taking care of our kids for May 16th. Let's not let this opportunity to create a #BetterWorld pass us by.  Meet on the gym steps after bus dismissal if you want to be a part of the action/planning.

  • FYI, our cafeteria will be open on May 16th to serve any student, at any grade level, from 11-12:30.
Today we are moving to stage two of our new interview protocol with a candidate presenting a model lesson on Fractions.
  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.B.4.B - Understand a multiple of a/b as a multiple of 1/b, and use this understanding to multiply a fraction by a whole number. For example, use a visual fraction model to express 3 × (2/5) as 6 × (1/5), recognizing this product as 6/5. (In general, n × (a/b) = (n × a)/b.)
If you are still here and want to be a part of the "class," please meet in the Music room @ 5pm.

EVAAS teacher roster workshop will be Monday @ 3:30 in the computer lab.

Thursday, May 10th

Check out the video of Dr. Emory at the press conference to announce the WSFCS response to Advocacy Day on May 16.

Your feedback assisted BELLT to develop two options for the CNA/Test Plan session.  Click this LINK and complete the google form, thanks.

Please see Laurie to adjust your pink sheet as the decision allows "annual" leave rather than personal leave.

There is an adjustment for administrator support for Friday as Sarah and I are both off campus for portions of the day.
  • Dr. Stevens will be housed in my office to assist with disciplinary issues
  • We have the Amazing Office CREW of Nelva, Laurie and Katie
  • Jenn, Su & Kathy will also assist

Wednesday, May 9th

BELLT has a decision to make this afternoon and we need your input.

On Wednesday, May 16th, we have a vital Community Crew at 3:30 followed by CNA/NC Star rubric work in faculty crew.  We need 100% participation yet several staff members have requested Personal Leave on this day.  Shall we shift the Crew session to Tuesday the 15th or Friday the 18th?  Shall we leave it on the 16th and accept the gaps?  Shall we schedule two days and allow people to choose?  We cannot hear all voices at the brief 15 minute Community Crew this afternoon so please provide feedback to BELLT
