Click to read this article and utilize October as a month to explore strategies to create balance in your life.  It is a short article with a great tag line:
It’s easy to fall into the trap of being “too busy chasing cows to build a fence.”

Fire drill:
Thanks so much for the great work each of you are doing to keep our students safe.  The Fire Marshall said this was "the best report he'd seen thus far this year".  The few issues we had were very minor (people have been contacted).
     On a side note:

  • Please keep the door(s) to your classroom locked for safety purposes.
  • If your door is dragging (hard to close) since the rain, please let Laurie know so we can put in a work order.  Thanks!

Friday, September 21st

Please welcome a new staff member to alleviate our kindergarten class size.
  • Melissa Haynes comes to us from Kernersville Elementary and will spend the next few days organizing her space, Room 4, and learning about our norms and academic culture.  Our plan is to start the new section on Thursday, September 27th.

Please stay away from the Sycamore tree between the backstops as there is another dangerous branch waiting to drop.

So sorry about the lack of a blog for Thursday. No excuses, I just neglected to do one and I apologize.

New addition to Brunson:

Due to the arrival of Florence, my boys have classes cancelled at UNC-CH and App State.  Some may wonder, "why is WSFCS not being responsive to the threat of wind and rain like our institutions of higher learning?"  Let me share my perspective;  Universities are complex systems housing thousands of residential students and need to make the call early to allow for travel logistics.  WSFCS is complex, yet we transport students back home everyday.  Thus our mission is to actively monitor the storm to honor the value of instructional time while keeping student safety our priority.  Stay tuned and keep focused.

Tuesday, September 11th

Please take a moment to reflect and honor the memory of 2001.  I was in a classroom full of high school science students, jointly trying to comprehend the incomprehensible.  It was my last year as a classroom teacher as I began the NC Principal Fellows program at UNC-G in the fall of 2002.

Today we will commemorate 9/11 with a full minute of reflection time on the announcements.

After the announcements, 3rd grade students will begin the BOG-3.

Join me in welcoming Deb Landreth to our Crew as a part time reading interventionist.  Her role will be to work with our students on the verge of proficiency in the 1st & 2nd grades.  Tier two interventions are 7 to 10 minutes in length and 8 to 10 days in duration between progress monitoring.

News on Florence is day by day.  If you are in a low lying area, survey what you would like to lift to higher ground in the event we get flooding rains.

Monday, September 10th

Welcome to week #3 and the opening Crew session.

Third grade students will take the BOG-3 on Tuesday Morning.  Please monitor movement and volume to provide an appropriate assessment environment for our students.

We met with SMO, our contract cleaning service, to create the plan for improved service in the afternoons.

  • A supervisor will be present for several days to ensure a fully secure lock down at 8:00
  • Two additional employees, Cassietta and Gayle will be attending to rooms
  • A new site supervisor, Pasquella,  will begin mid-week
  • All classroom teachers need to stack or "table" chairs for daily sweeping
  • All classroom teachers need to close all blinds daily for security & energy management
Together we can improve the physical condition of our school.  We are crew, not passengers.
