Nat'l Theatre For Children: The Treasure Trove Of Conservation Cove

My friends,

The Nat'l Theatre for Children is offering a free play about energy conservation and natural resources.  I told their rep, Lauren, I'd forward the info and and check to see if you believe  the content aligns with your grade level.  I'm happy to be the liaison between y'all.  So take a look below, discuss with your grade level and let me know by next Wednesday (9/3/14) if you are interested.  Thanks, Andy

FWD Message:
Lauren Bergstrom here, with The National Theatre for Children. We spoke earlier and I said I'd send along the details of our brand new show, The Treasure Trove of Conservation Cove, that you can glance at with your teachers when you have a free moment. So here you go!

As I said on the phone, The Treasure Trove of Conservation Coveis only 25 minutes long, features a fun adventure about energy conservation and natural resources, and because we are sponsored by Duke Energy to come around to schools, the show will be performed for you at no cost whatsoever. The link below is the show page at our website, which gives you and your teachers a better idea about the workbook activities that accompany the show, the (hilarious) script, and the teacher guides:

I’ve also attached some more details about the day of the show, along with some thoughts from other North Carolina teachers. In case it's helpful, here are a few fall dates (not all--there are plenty more open on the website) we have available in the area:

9/22 (AM only)
9/29 (AM only)
10/6 (all day)
10/7 (PM only)
10/8 (all day)
10/9 (all day)

Take your pick! Once you've worked it out, you can email me back here (schools@nationaltheatre.com), call 1-800-858-3999, ext. 1., or you can visit www.nationaltheatre.com to see more dates and click 'Schedule a show.'

Thank you so much for your time, and we hope to see the students at Brunson Elementary this fall!

Best,
Lauren

The National Theatre for Children has a FREE educational assembly for your school on the topic of resources and conservation, brought to you by Duke Energy. The assembly is called “The Treasure Trove of Conservation Cove: A Pirate’s Tale”, and it is a 25 minute comedy show performed by two professional actors who come directly to your school. The two actors play a variety of wacky characters, switching costumes and wigs, in a zany, comic-book plot —it is quite a fun treat forstudents and teachers alike!

Along with the program, complimentary materials are providedfor your school as well as free energy efficiency kits from Duke Energy. The entire program aligns with standards for science and social studies, and again, the whole program is entirely FREE.

To learn more about our organization or to schedule a show online, visitwww.nationaltheatre.comemail back or give us a call at 1.800.858.3999 ext. 1. We would be happy to help you out!

We visit two schools each day – one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and our professional actors are able to accommodate audiences of up to 350 students per performance. (It is typical for us to perform multiple assemblies back to back.) The actors bring everything they need with them – so all the school needs to provide is the space and the audience!
Here are some testimonials from North Carolina teachers who saw last year’s program:

The theatre skit for energy was well done and the staff and the students enjoyed it.  It also went along with the unit we are covering currently. - Maria Lamar, 3rd grade teacher, Nations Ford Elementary, Charlotte, NC

This was GREAT! The students LOVED the performance and our school is excited to have you all back. The students are excited about conserving energy and remind of ways to conserve energy in our own classroom. Sarah Parker, 2nd grade teacher, Stoney Creek Elementary School, Charlotte, NC

This was a wonderful performance!  The actors were so entertaining and did a wonderful job of keeping thechildren "involved."  They are very talented.  The boys and girls talked about the performance as soon as we returned to the classroom.  They thought it was great.  They are fifth graders and loved every bit of it!  We were able to have a follow-up conversation about what they can do to help.  We also talked about what we can do in the classroom.  I will be able to refer back to this performance later in the year when we talk about this topic further. Marie Palma, 5th grade teacher, Woodland Heights, Mooresville, NC

The actors  did an unbelievable job!  All of our students (and teachers!) were highly engaged and so entertained. Even one of our fifth graders who is typically 'too cool'for fun couldn't hide his laughter. We had two shows at the end of the day on a Friday  and I couldn't believe it when the second show was just as "energyzed" as the first. I can't rave enough about how wonderful the actors were. Kimberly Schafer, PreK-5 grade teacher Facilitator, Pinewood, Charlotte, NC

I was in charge of obtaining this program for our school.  I knew nothing about the program except the info listed on the website.  The progam was presented for just certain classes. Had I known the quality of the performance and the level of information presented  I would have set up programs for our entire student body. Your actresses made me wish I was much younger and could join your company!  Great enthusiasm--the students (who can be rowdy in some assemblies) were mesmerized.  Thank you  thank you  thank you! Sally Edwards, Science Teacher, Reedy Creek Elem, Charlotte, NC

This was a wonderful program. The children were entertained as well as informed. I'm sure they will be telling their families all the different ways to save energy!! Thanks so much! -Amy Hurley, 2nd grade teacher, Gardner Park Elem, Gastonia, NC

It was an excellent performance and information as it ties in with our 4th grade curriculum of energy and magnetism. - Nicholas Nostro Jr, 4th grade teacher, Pitts School Road Elementary School, Concord, NC

Students were highly engaged in the listening and responding to the actors. Students were able to explain the message of conserving energy and how to accomplish the tasks at home and at school! In addition  they enjoyed the production. Jessica White, 3rd grade teacher, Sharon EL, Statesville, NC

The program was very engaging. Students were captivated by the people in the show.  They were learning important content but enjoyed it because they were laughing and were thrilled with the characters. - Tara Johnson, all (resource), Blythe Elementary School, Huntersville, NC

Thanks very much, and let me know if you need any more information.
Sincerely,

Lauren Bergstrom
