Today's PTA birthday bash has been moved to Friday at 1:45.
At our faculty meeting Wednesday we will nominate and vote for our 2012-13 Teacher of the Year. The following is text from Vickie Lee who is our HR contact for this important process.
There are no local eligibility requirements for school-level TOY's as long as they are in a teacher-paid role (teacher, guidance counselor, media coordinator, PRT,
curriculum coordinator, etc.).   However, to compete for the district
level
TOY, we require them to meet state eligibility rules so that our
district TOY will be eligible to go on to regional and state level
competition.  Here are the state rules (comments in parentheses are
mine):
To be eligible for selection as a Teacher of the Year, a person must hold a Standard Professional 2 (SP2) license
(not a Beginning Teacher - formerly called ILT's), be employed full time and spend at least 70% of his or her time in direct instruction of North Carolina public school students
(not Guidance, Media, SLP, Psychologists, Social Workers or Curriculum coordinators, etc). (North Carolina State Board of Education Policy, March 2008)
If your faculty wants to select a teacher to serve as your school’s
Teacher of the Year who does not meet the state criteria, you may do
so.  However, your school-level selectee will not be able to compete in
the system level competition.
Your assistance in this process is extremely important.  I hope you
will encourage your faculty members to take this task seriously and
select a teacher who is truly outstanding.  It is your option to allow
classified employees to vote.  Please encourage
that this voting be done by written teacher nomination and secret
ballot vote. The process should reflect the professionalism it is due.
To ensure that the candidate from your school has ample time to
complete the TOY Portfolio, please do not wait to select this person.
We suggest that all schools complete their selections by December 20, 2012.
